A very close friend is going in for his first interview with Google. I hear they have a very strong culture and slightly different business ideas than your typical company in the high tech new age business.

The job is a Product Manager (all encompassing job discription) This guy is brilliant, articulate, MS Computer Sciences and has worked on everything from brain activated video games, to advanced combat systems software.

He should fit right in with the Google team. Any hints other than the standard stuff when interviewing Google.

No this is not me!

Dah dude

They're good, also in interviewing. Often they start with two or three telephone interviews (not all at once) with increasingly harder questions and longer span. Apart from the technical part they often try to see if one is multi-faceted and out-of-the-box. Some questions might not make sense (or completely off-the-wall) but are just ways to see how narrow or broad ones vision is. Having multiple interests and cross-linking them in a way is an advantage.

They stress the importance of having your own interests, pet projects and ambitions, even of the 'nerdy' type. They look for the best in the field so anything that can show them your friend has gone all the way in *enthusiasm* (dedication not just emotion) and even a bit further, no matter how obscure the item, they would like to hear. They might fit him in somewhere else if the desired job might not be it!

My best advice is for him to remain focused on the job, don't get too personal and be himself.

Companies with a certain "culture" often look for people who will fit right in and do the best job and contribute to the team when needed.

If the interviewing team doesn't feel that he will "fit in" than it really won't be the job for him.

Sweet pea, just be honest. Why DO you think you deserve the scholarship? Are you a good student? Would you be an asset to the college? THey are giving you their money and they want to make sure their money is not going to waste.

He should apply for the department of defense or start his own country. Russia has new missiles that can not be infiltrated, yes the cold war is back in the game !
