well i know george jones is good friends with young bucks like hank the 3rd and Shooter Jennings. Okiefan, i know ther are alot of new guys and gals you'd really like who don't play into the slick trash pumped out of nashville inc., but i doubt you'd take my word for that and that makes me sad. anyway, ain't no one gonna fill THEIR shoes, but we can listen to their music forever. EDIT: George Jones has taken an active role in gettin with some of these young bucks who respect the tradition, and that is really encouraging, music goes in circles. Maybe someday you will let me send you some music by some of the newer upstarts. none of them are toeing the line, and it is pretty encouraging to tell you the truth. but, I do understand the sentiment. I'm just glad George Jones is doing his part to show the the youngsters what's up. Just like you Okiefan.

Ok 56 year old here who lived her childhood in "the last age of innocence" before the Vietnam war and hippy times. It is true that in the 1950's it was a lot more like the old TV shows" Ozzie and harriet" or "Happy Days" It really was at least compared to today. You young folks I feel sorry for, you have nothing to compare it with and it isn't like it has been for all of history because modern technology, as you know and accept all too well, changes like almost over night. And so the "oldies but goodies" will never return. They can't. This world is now run by corporate retailers and greed. It is very sad for my generation to see because it was so so good in my young days. I'm not just being nostalgic. It is like everything is the opposite of now. People really cared about each other because a man could make a decent living and the mom could stay home and bake cookies and love on her kids and create that much sought after homey place and it was usually much easier on family life, which is actually the base of any society. When things got so both parents had to work to survive, like you young folk do, it is like desperately scratching out a living and the focus has turned from family to survival economically and the corporate retailers have taken full advantage of this, to the point you are being tricked all the time and don't even know it. With the computer customer service has become "please push 6 and listen to that menu, and then push 8 and we wildly push to get a real person and low and behold, no real person so you go to the web site like they want you to do so they don't have to pay to hire phone customer service and yes, you send an email and then you get an auto reply that says "due to the high volume of emails ..... blah blah blah, and like 6 weeks later, you MIGHT get an answer. Even live chat is mostly BS, as it sends you off to sites and when you get there you still don't understand. This just creates angry frustrated people and that is what coroporate retail wants so you will just sign in and get billed to death and can never get off or like that. When the debit/check card first came out with checking accounts the great part was it helped because if you went to buy something and you had no money in your account, it wouldn't go thru :0 thinking of us, the customer, but the banks found they could make tons of profits in fees just like with the credit cards now and all their late fees, they found new ways to suck money off of you. My debit card changed and I'm sure they sent me a document in type size -20 that in those 2000 words they slipped in oh by the way, the debit card goes thru now no matter what. They changed everything on us in midstream, so when you are asking who is going to take a country groups place, no one, that caliber of people isn 't being produced anymore thanks to society creating angry bitter people who are sick to death of waiting on the phone after pushing 10 numbers and never getting a person. One trick here, get a phone with speaker phone and just set it near you and keep doing something else, but I don't have a cell phone so my idea is probably outdated but it works for me and when they try to get you to hang up after waiting 25 minutes, I'm busy getting things done and I do get a live person !!!! amazing. good luck young people

I think Alabama was doing a decent job of it. It seems to few are of that type. Espically the ones coming around now. Maybe we are just going through one of those times, and it will cycle back to people who CARE.
BTW Gary Allen was somewhat trying, he wouldn't do what Nashville wanted and that is why he hasn't got much music out.

Good question! I don't really like the way that country music is going. It seems to me that it is becoming all style and no substance.
Do any of the country songs out there right now seem like they will be classics 20 years from now?

Well, Reba and George Strait, Alan Jackson, Allison Krauss... might not really be filling their shoes, but they sure are making shoes of their own to fill!
