When you watch a show like this it helps to know a little about the area - North Jersey and the people they are writing about. Are all Italians in the mafia?? Of course not, but are there Italians in the mafia?? yes, so a show about Italian mafia is not reinforcing a stereotype - it is just showing a part of life - even if it is a part of life a lot of people really would rather sweep under the rug.

Well I knew a Italian American family that moved down south from New Jersey and guess what? They knew plenty of mob folks and their son was something of a low level guy. What's to say when so many times the stereotype is reinforced?
