I think you will find it is illegal to record a private conversation as it infringes on your civil rights.
But,
I think you will only be able to enforce this if you have official breaks near to the camera.
The company would argue that private conversations should not take place while you are working.

Your employer can do whatever they want on their own premises. If you are in Europe though, you may be entitled to ask your employer to justify the use of audio monitoring as this could breach an article of the human rights act regarding the right to privacy.

Yes, they are allowed to do so. It is their premises in which you work, and they are entitled to do whatever they feel is necessary to protect their business operations, as long as the intended act is not in violation of the law.
