i think people that choose to totally discount the bad times, and choose to see them differently may be lieing to themselves to stop it from hurting them - which in the long term isnt such a good thing. Lifes up's and downs teach us lessons, and you cant learn anything if you arnt willing to participate.

a certain extent of that happiness (that fits a standard of society) wasn't what you really wanted. And that is why a generically happy life isn't so happy at all. The most happy life is one that one fashions for oneself and the ways in which one will have it. It means not veering too much to the left or right, but finding that right degree of everything. The most unhappy life has been fashioned by someone else. If I were to imagine my life in my friend's shoes as happy as she seems, I do not want it. It wasn't my own making and doesn't fit my wants/needs/personality. What I want may be odd and that is a problem. If I were to live a happy life like everyone's else's cookie-cutter life, I'd live a lie. That is why a happy life is a lie. It isn't so happy for everyone. The perceived happy life is really a lot of duties and obligations that makes you appear normal and not crazy.

It depends on how you perceive it. In a way, optimism is also a lie since it goes against the grain of prevailing reality. But it is necessary if tomorrow is to be happy.
You can tell the truth and be happy too, if you happily accept the hardships that follow. Ultimately, happiness comes through developing an equanamous attitude towards happiness and sorrow.
The balanced spirit flags not under the burden of sorrow, nor unduly rejoices in joy.
As they say out in the West, "Learn to take the rough with the smooth and you will be happy every single day of your life".

i don't think happiness is based on lies ....All lies could bring are problems ...even those problem don't appear right away...especially when we tend to lie all the time and then our lies sometime come to the surface (cuz they will)our relationships with people are falling apart..and let me put this in an other way of thinking''how would YOU feel if you learn that your best friend in life after 10 years had kept you a dead serious lie''?would you think it would be the hardest thing to do to forget her....so reveal your lies, deal with it,be brave, you live a better life when you don't have sth to hide...people who love you they will pass this over it won't be easy but you''ll get through that..trust me!!!

Happiness is based on circumstance, and since life is unfair and painful, it is impossible to be happy all the time. Absolutely impossible, because nobody is happy after someone dies, or after they stub a toe.
But, a person can choose how to view the painful parts of their life, that THAT is where true joy exists. They feel pain when someone dies because they loved that person... they can choose to focus on the love, rather than on the pain, and they feel joy.
So yes, living a life of happiness is impossible, because life itself is unhappy, but living a life of joy is completely possible because joy comes from how you choose to view the difficult parts of your life. Joy is more honest and precise than happiness, and it is completely achievable.
Hope that thought is what you're looking for :)

If someone is really feeling happy with his/her life, I can't see how you can say that s/he is lying. The point is you can't see and judge everything through your own lens and mind.
