Me and my friend were just sitting in the common room at sixth form because our french lesson was cancelled. Then this girl who never talks to us asked us if we had a free lesson and I said "Umm... no we have to go get some work" so we came in the library to get away from her. We just didn't want her stalking us for an hour because she sits with us at dinner aswell. So we thought that rather than being rude we'd just leave. Was this mean?

I forgot to mention, this girl is very hard to converse with and when we talk to her it's like "Did you have a nice weekend?" and she's very monosyballic so you're lucky to get a "yeah" back. She's completely self orintated aswell and never asks what we think or how we are, which isn't down to shyness just plain rudeness because she'd waffle on for ten minutes about what she had for tea if she got the chance.

We weren't directly rude, just said we had work to do. And we didn't leave her by herself our other two mates were sitting with us and they were staying in there anyway, we wouldn't abandon her, that'd be cruel. What I'm asking is was it mean to make the excuse.

in a kind it is mean, but it doesn't matter as long as you were not really directly rude. so don't keep thinking of it.

Not nasty, but rude. If you didn't want ther to hang around, you could've said "We have a few minutes but then have to be somewhere to meet some friends." That gives the hint that she's not included without being overtly mean. That also gives her the chance to say what she wanted, if she still feels so inclined, but at a limited time frame. What's the real reason you guys don't like her? Is it 'cuz she's "uncool"? Why not hear her out and/or give her a chance?

Sounds to me like she really might be quite shy if she doesn't talk to you much. Maybe next time you could give her a chance and be a bit more welcoming. You never know she could turn out to be a really good friend once she opens up to you.

A bit mean perhaps because people treat her the same way you do she doesn't get the opportunity relax and feel confident enough to join in conversations

Yeah that was mean. What is wrong with this girl? She probably just wants to make friends. You wouldn't like it if someone did that to you.

Not really. You are allowed to be friends with or avoid whomever you choose. At least you didn't yell in her face to Quit Bugging you!!!

nbi this was a civil thing to do.
but if she found out that you were lying, she'd consider it mean and it may hurt her.
in future just take into consideration, other peoples feelings.
