Its short and simple:

I'm obsessed with knowing the time. All the time. I wear a watch, because without it I find myself in constant search for a clock whenever I feel a 'need' to know the time. I wear it all the time, except when dealing with water, which is usually when I lose it, and run around the house in a panic to find it.

The longest i've gone without it is probably 2 weeks? And everytime I looked at my wrist which was watchless, and there were no clocks to be found, I felt this horrible "ssiiiggghhh" inside me.

I'm pretty sure this isn't normal lol ;P Is it someting serious?

On the other hand: Time is also the only thing that seems to help me remember things, but I dont relate the two on a daily basis? I cant tell you what "I did today" but I can tell you what I did at 5pm, or 3 hours ago, etc.

Don't know if this is one cause vs the other, or a problem.

It doesn't interfere too much with life, so i'm not THAT troubled but gawd forbid I lose my watch :(

Its not completely normal, but its not OCD either. I constanlty count backwards from 30 when I am waiting for a phone call, in line at the grocery store, waiting for a page to load, walking down the hallway, wiating for papers to finish copying or being faxed...all the time. And even if, say, the pages finish faxing before I get to '0', I still keeping coutning because once I start, I have to finish. I am 24 and I went to my dr at 21 about this. He says its actually a sign of ADD, but not a evere enough case to go on meds. Its a such a minor case of it that I will eventually grow out of it on my own. You are smart and intelligent (this is what my doc told me) and your body knows that you need to be concentrating on something so instinctively you concentrate on something of your choice (with me its counting backwards from 30 and with you its the time).

Try to do this: when you find yourself looking for a clock, tell yourself "I do not need to know the time right now. It will not make a difference". And see how long you can go. Good luck!

Times are changing! Some years ago, this would have been abnormal: these days, every one is on a fst track, in a rush, so, the need to time your activities on a continued spree, may not be anything to worry about! (i better close this because my time is running out!)

obsessive compulsive dont have to affect you in a negative manner all the time. not everyone who is OC is like ' monk'. your behaviour is obsessive and may be compulsive as you need a watch and feel a bit disoriented without it. however, do not think that you are weird because everyone has a little bit of ocd within them.
