Why does this happen?

Firstly, people nowadays thinks only of themselves, its always "me,me,me!", this thought often makes them forget the fact that no man is his own island. They believe that it is their own brains or 'smartness' that enables them to score straight a's. They believe that a teacher's role in guiding them is insignificant. Thus, this cause many people especially the younger generations (you don't see the elderly disrespecting teachers, do you?) to disregard the importance of a teacher.

Secondly, many teacher's nowadays are not meant to be teachers in the firdt place. Many of them were left with no other options of jobs than to become teachers (this is bacause a teachers are government servants, thus making it easy for "bumiputras" to become teachers. ps, I'm not trying to be racist here, but that is the fact in Malaysia). These forced-to-be teachers have no passion in the teaching profession, thus leading to the poor quality of education in the country right now. That also contribute to the bad reputation that teachers receive nowadays.

Thirdly, about parents, many parents do not spend enough time with their kids. These children grow up without the 100% love of their parents, because of this, they, too, do not love their parents 100% and often disregard them.

sincerely,
DeepNight.

I'm not sure i know teachers and parents can form the children to be either good or bad but in some cases they are irrelevant example me.I am not like any of my family in anyway i shy away from there manorisms my parent is not some as i see as important in shaping me and what i want to become in life

But you are right parents are very important and don't get seen as important figures in society

Not every teacher or parent are good at what they do. I can't say much for my parents, they were pretty good, but I've had teachers that explain that they are pretty much learning what they are teaching right along with the class.
EDIT also with the overcrowding that occurs in most schools nowadays the teachers don't get as close to the students as they used to.

Agree with you that teachers and parents don't get their due recognition and appreciation in society, seeing that they are doing the most important job in society, of grooming the next generation, of shaping the future of the world through their work!
