Why are Limbaugh and other con-hosts so successful, while lib radio has to be subsidized to stay afloat?

The reason for this is that the liberals allredy control the television aspect of the media. The Conservitives have been heard of talk radio much longer. It started as an altrnative news outlet.Or the truth in things. Liberals dont have to go to the radio. They have the television,and the news papers. As for them being succesfull........Many people relate to conservitive talk shows. Most conservitives only talk about what bothers them in America in small social groups or at the dinner table. Conservitive talk radio gives them the outlet they need. As a conservitive myself.....I view Rush Limbaugh as one of the most smartest men in America. Even though he war mongers........and has never served.

I have said this before Rush Limbaugh and the other conservative talk show hosts are in the entertainment business. They depend on a lot of people being upset with what they say, this gets them the attention that they need. They do how ever say a lot of things about the politicians that one would think that if they were not true the politicians would demand that they recant their statements but they don't.

For the same reason that Paris Hilton is splashed all over the news because of a simple jail sentence instead of those 2 missing soldiers I told you about in a previous answer. The old supply and demand rule applies. People like listening to crap even if it is from a pain pill popping poop.

Conservative radio has very wisely created a new way of "talking" to their listeners. They use the "us" against "them" philosophy. They try to appeal to fears in conservative listeners. To do this they have created a new language, with buzz words that they define and use repeatedly to help listeners feel a bond with them. They appear to be very logical in their arguments, They generally will have the same "message", and are unified in their presentations.
Liberals have not created an environment for their radio shows. They are not unified, and haven't created a culture in the way the conservatives have. Much less organized in their presentations, and don't have the killer instinct.

Well in part because the off the deep end liberalism they espouse is not where the majority of Americans are philosophically, also, the off the deep end conservatism that the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity ( who calls fellow Americans the enemy!!! )spout, isn't where most Americans are but you have the hard core, bible belt, doing anything it takes to make money no matter how much it hurts the country group, but that group is more, " evangelical " shall we say.

That is easily explained. There are a lot more airheads in America than thinking individuals. The "Dittoheads" have to get their daily fix of what to do and how to think, and to reinforce their blind obedience, or they wouldn't be able to make it through the day. It's sort of like Pavlovian Conditioning. Whereas liberals don't have to listen to radio to know what to do and how to think. They just do it! It's amazingly simple how that works.

I'm not trying to be flippent, I truly believe this.

Liberals are simply smarter and don't need to be continually reminded of the same things over and over again.

I listened to both sides and just got tired of hearing the same things. There is only so many ways you can say Clinton did _____ or Bush did ______.
