Fact that it's not on your bureau report didn't make it go away. Statute of limitations might be in effect if you haven't been involved in an ongoing situation.

Yes, they can demand it. I have noted on posting board that many are confused over a debt collection statute of limitations. A SOL for debt collection ONLY refers to the ability of the debtor to take legal action (default judgment or similar) after the SOL has expired or passed. The debtor is still allowed to attempt to collect the debt using other means.
