I work in a Biochemistry lab and for blood samples we centrifuge most samples a 3050 rpm and most test tubes have a universal gel separator in them which allows the serum to be kept separate from the red blood cells. Urine is usually tested by chromatography by using little strips that indicate drug/molecule levels in urine.

Hope this helps :)
