I think chances are that the Indian Cricket Control Board (BCCI) would not feel very 'encouraged' to employ David Whatmore as coach mainly due to the fact that Indians take 'honour' more seriously than any other cricket playing nations (beside Pakistan). This 'ego' thing will be the main obstacle in his getting that job since the Bangladeshi Cricket teams in ICC WC-2007 has beaten India under the tutelage of Dave that cost India in not getting berth in the Super-8 round. Moreover, Dave made him look cheaper in the eyes of the Indian bosses by voluntarily suggesting his name twice in the last few years for being aspirant of coach's job. However, if the BCCI ultimately selects Dave as their coach then it would be very interesting thing to happen akin to 'hat trick' as he coached neighboring Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, a distinctive and unmatched feat by itself!

well i think that bcci ,by not taking whatmore as coach has taken a correct decision .Though whatmore can be a really good coach for team india but whats the need if players only r not in favour of whatmore!becoz players only have to play and no one else nor bcci nor whatmore nor us!so it depends only and only on players whom they chose for team india even if he in capable or incapable!

Dear Friend,
While we talking about a coach for Indian team, we have to notice one thing: Only because of a good coach, Indian team will not emerge as the number one team. Players should come out with consistency form. Indian players will be in form for 3 months and rest 9 months they will be trying to recover from their out of form situation. How many of us aware about the statistics of Australian coach. After the world cup only people started discussing about their coach. Aussies players always keeping a standard playing level and having their consistency and fitness.
Now as per my opinion, India has to go for John Write or Sandeep Patel for the position of coach

He should not have disclosed his eagerness explicitly.
I think BCCI made a mess of it.
May be a blessing in disguise for Indian coaches.
The players should not be allowed to have a say in the selection of coach.

They should feel shame to go back to him as they had announced earlier that he is out of contention. If Watmore is a man of self respect he should not acceptthe offer even if BCCI offer him the job.

BCCI will never take a coach who is eager to do the job and they are money-oiented.So, BCCI won't take him as a coach.
