I might of missed something, but in Harry Potter, what is Lucious Malfoy's job/career? how come he is so rich?

I don't think that it has been expressly said in the books, but in all probability, he is an investor or benefactor.

It's family money. As far as we've been told, the Malfoys are so rich none of them needs to work. I assume Lucius is a full-time Death Eater/House Elf Beater.

He comes from a famous family and so he has inherited the wealth through the generations.
Basically it is a metaphor UKs upper class twits you want to keep ordinary people in their place.
