If it's a stinky burger or kebab or something, yes. Otherwise, no.

Yes and no. I guess yes becasue if it is smelly food then it is - but something lie sweets or choclate then no.
BUT - if all food and drink wsa eradicated then litter would be less. Most importantly is everyone has a different idea of what "smelly" food is etc. For example - some people take a coffee on board - to me, the smell of coffee litterally makes me want to vomit and if im too close to it - I often do! Yet that wouldnt be considered smelly food?
Also - any smells I think are rude - whether somene is chewing gum next to you all you can smell is that - or if someones been drinking all you can smell is alcohol. SO its a tough one as everyones idea of acceptability is different. I guess the only way to tackly it would be to ban it all together - then the only bad smells would be the people baking in the summer sun and well - theres not much we can do about that until the underground install air con - which isnt going to happen anytime this millenium.

Depends what you are eating. If the food let's off a lot of smell it is definitely rude. And if the food is scatterd over the tube or is dripping grease / sauce all over the place it is downright revolting and should be banned and subject to a fine. Leaving food wrappings and drink cans on the tube is also filthy and should be met with a fine.
The tube is everyone's space and people should therefore be considerate. It also lacks AC and therefore any food wafting the carriage compounds the sense of filth. Londoners are disgusting as to the way they treat the tube IMHO

As someone that has had the misfortune to use the tube as part of my journey from east anglia to Aylesbury (4 hours on public transport versus 2 hours by car) I have had to eat on the tube to make my connection at the other end, and prevent extending my journey but at least 40 mins. Food is not served on the other trains either just to add to the problem. Eating on the tube is not rude, making a mess and behaving discourteously is far worse as far as i'm concerned.
Generally i try to avoid public transport as much as possible and have done since the time i lived in London.

i replaced into easily analyzing an suggestion column about this contained in the paper some weeks in the past. The reader stated they did not like the nutrition from yet another custom and didn't want to eat it even as it replaced into provided to them. the author of the suggestion column replied by declaring that no longer liking it replaced into an unacceptable excuse, yet in the journey that they were allergic then it would want to be ok. So convinced, being allergic is a reason to refuse nutrition, and it isn't rude to finish that.

No, but I don't know why people have to leave their food wrappings and drink containers on seats. Even if they're too lazy to take it with them they could at least put it on the floor. Bins in stations would solve a lot of the litter problems. They were remove as a knee-reaction when a bomb was once left in a bin. A result of this removal is vermin infestation.
There are times when I have to eat on the tube or go hungry. I'm self-employed and rely on public transport to get between appointments. There are times when I just have to grab a sandwich on the way.

Of course it's rude, no matter how you try to get around it. There are, of course, degrees of rudeness in these matters. It's common to see people not only eating on public transport, but talking at the same time and spraying everyone with their masticated food, or chomping on it like a cow chews the curd. People don't understand the concept of manners anymore in this country and things like this are becoming more and more acceptable. This isn't what made Britain Great, people!! Also, please remember that 'your' is the possessive form, 'you're' is the correct abbreviation of 'you are'. Now come on!

Yes it is! The atmosphere on the underground is bad enough without the smell of food. Smoking has been banned, now let's ban eating! It will also help to decrease the amount of rubbish in the tube cars.

It depends what you're eating and how much space you have in which to eat it. If you're sat down it's less of a problem - if you're standing in the doorway crammed in like sardines, then I'd think it unlikely you'd have room to eat!
Crisps and apples are noisy, biscuits and cakes leave crumbs everywhere, anything which requires cutlery of some description is just complicated, and most hot food will have some sort of aroma. Anything fish, whether hot or cold, should be avoided at all costs. Many forms of fruit are very juicy and should not be eaten for etiquette reasons, or just in case you dribble juice down your front. Same goes for anything with pips or stones (ie cherries) as you'll have to spit them out.
So that pretty much leaves you with sandwiches and bananas!
I did once see a man trying to drink hot soup on a tube - how he didn't spill it everywhere is a mystery.....
