m party they are?
http://yougov.com/archives/pdf/omi060101069_1.pdf

1. Nearly 1/3 ADMIT to wanting all immigrants to leave the country (only 52% oppose).

2. Majority want all immigration stopped (only 29% oppose).

3. 20% would SERIOUSLY consider voting BNP (the real value is probably higher - 'first past the post' discourages support for smaller parties).

WIth such widepread support amongst the British people don't the BNP deserve more acknowledgment?

YouGov is a HIGHLY respected polling organisation. The poll was taken in conjunction with Sky News.

"Lies, Damned Lies and statistics". Never a truer word was said.

If these figures are truly indicative of political opinion in the UK, how come the BNP never poll more than about 1% of the vote even in elections where proportional representation is used?

These polls were taken in April, prior to the local elections where the BNP made no significant progress whatsoever.

I also notice that when the BNP was mentioned in relation to these policies, it had a negative effect on support in every case.

The sample sizes of these polls, were 900 and 941 respectively. Not anywhere near enough to form an accurate view of public opinion.

It doesn't say where the samples were taken, but I would be prepared to bet that it was in an area where BNP support is unreprisentatively strong, compared to the rest of the country.

Immigration is what has made Britian Great. Sorry to say it, but it is true. Once the second world war was over, UK industry was in tatters. It was immigration that saved it. It is immigration that has been the backbone of the NHS. Without it, there would be far fewer doctors than what is needed now. Look back at the time of Enoch Powell. Then, immigration was needed to run the factories of the UK, to run the NHS. More importantly, he also was instrumental in getting immigrants to come to the UK so that they could work in the NHS. Why? To help people. Many people think about some aspects of BNP policies without giving them full thought. Getting rid of all immigrants would not, for example, involve getting rid of the descendants of immigrants. Ask that question, and you would get a much larger number of people opposing that view.

As for the media being left wing, look at the Mail, the Express, the Times, and of course, the Torygraph. All are right wing. The independent is middle of the road, and it is only the guardian and the Mirror that are left wing. Even the BBC is central when it comes to politics, favouring neither the Tories, nor labour.

There is only one country in the world that is run to principles similar to the BNP, that being North Korea. It has the same self reliance issues that the BNP advocates, it has no immigration, again a BNP view, it has a strong military, again, a BNP view, and it protects its economy, encouraging citizens not to get goods from abroad, again, a BNP view. Look at the success that country is.

I for one love this country, I do not think that the BNP have any idea about what is really best for the country. A Britain run by the BNP would soon lose the 'Great' that makes this country such a wonderful place. Most people realise that which is why they do not want to vote for them.

There is indeed support for better immigration controls but that does not mean more support for the BNP. The problem is that the wishes and concerns of middle England have been ignored in favour of the metropolitan liberal elite . We have our sovereignty being given away to the EU , bad housing policies in the south east , the issues of the countryside ignored, and immigration is a travesty. Even with all this though the support for the far right is not that big because people are not that stupid or bigoted. If the mainstream actually represented the people instead of The Guardian newspaper or the BBC the BNP would fade away.

You are trying to make a good PR for BNP, but the truth is simple:

48% would not consider voting for a party supporting BNP- like policies (37% would);

and 66% would not vote if BNP was mentioned (20% would).

Is this a majority of British society who supports them or are you manipulating the facts?

And, last but not least: it was just the internet poll. Looking at yahoo Q&A, there is considerably higher proportion of BNP fans in the web, than in reality, with only 1% percent voting this nazi-like party.

So, the British people don't want all immigrants to leave the country. Actually, they don't even want a government to encourage this. So a bunch of Nazis like the BNP who want forcible expulsion (or is it ethnic cleansing) in the UK are running completely against public wishes.

Majority want immigration stopped. I'm not one of them, but I think mainstream parties would be wise to have a coherent immigration policy.

20% would CONSIDER voting for BNP, but that drops to 1% actually voting when they ask if they really want to be associated with racist thugs. This is not widespread support. 80% would not even consider voting for BNP.

While I accept that Yougov is a respectable polling company, the nature of internet polling makes it difficult to sample reliably. And your assertion that the number who would consider BNP is higher than that stated is completely unfounded.

I dont think that the BNP would actually be any good in power. They would tackle immigration and not much else. However, I believe that if the other parties saw that the BNP were gaining an increasing number of supporters for their policies then they would have to start tackling some of the issues in order to win back their voters. It certainly cant hurt to find out!

My own political views are in my profile, to save you looking them up, centre right. Would I vote for the BNP? Probably yes. I have read many articles about them and their policies, but have not yet met one of them who is standing for election. This is something I intend to rectify shortly. I am a little concerned with some of their membership, but lets face it, there are extremists on either wing of all our political parties, so no change there then. Tigon - I have a feeling your words are going to come back and bite you in the a*s. B rob - I share your sentiments that we need more politicians to have the balls to tell the people what needs to be done and how they are going to achieve it. Don`t know what my IQ is, I only have 5 O levels so I guess that puts me about average. Hope the answer isn`t too sheepish!!

The only problem is that most people won't vote BNP, so it would be best to vote conservative, then there's a much higher possibility of a new party winning the election, which is the next best party next to BNP for hope of immigration issues being tackled properly.

I think the reason they aren't treated as mainstream is the fact they are primarily a bunch of racist extremist half wits with the brains of a goldfish and the compassion of Hitler.

In answer to your points, this country is populated by people who originate from other countries. Please define how many generations one has to be able to trace one's ancestors back in order to be classed as British. Why don't we go as far as we possibly can and trace back hundreds of years? Most of the BNP supporters would probably find themselves living in europe somewhere, not Britain. How ironic for a bunch of racists who spout the benefits of repatriation.

Please define what you mean by immigration. Do you mean that everyone is unwelcome , no matter what they have to offer this country, or how desperate their lives may be in their country of origin?

Finally, I'm afraid the fact they may have some support doesn't change the fact they are simply racist idiots who feed off a misleading and short sighted press. I have seen figures saying they get less than a 1% share of the national vote which isn't widespread support in my book

The BNP should only receive recognition for what it is, a bunch of thugs dressed up as a political party as Michael Howard said.

Anyway, as the son of an Irish immigrant I dare say I would have to leave too. To be honest if the BNP ever get power it would be a pleasure.
