When you get your own babies you'll notice another thing about their sleep... Once they get there, especially between 10 minutes after they fall asleep and then for the next half hour after that, you can flop them around move them about make tons of noise and they don't even flinch. It is as if they make an immediate jump to REM and never look back. Or when they're a few months old and starting to eat food. They;re in their high chair, your feeding them, suddenly within seconds they fall asleep on the spot! Oh, and sometimes a trick to remember to get those newborns to sleep... put them in noisy surroundings! Everyone thinks that some quiet environment will put that newborn asleep, but in fact they just came from this life in the womb listening to their mommy's constant heart beat, gas, indigestion... not a quiet place! I think that is one reason where the expression sleeps like a baby comes form, because at this young age it can seem like they can sleep where an adult wouldn't have a chance at it. My boy was one of the worst, he'd never sleep! Up all night, he even refused to sleep in the car. Take him to a noisy mall, however, and we could have a peacefull lunch as he... "slept like a baby"

Sleep like a baby simply means people who fall asleep in less than a minute, just like babies. A normal baby should be sleeping 3-4 hours before they wake up for another feed.

Maybe because babies have peace they don't think about mortgages or term papers, lost love ones, they just know right now I'm sleep when I wake my mom and hopefully dad will be there. They have peace God said let the little children come to me.
