1 Quart mason jar
1 strand of 25 white lights (or something around that size)
1 package of potpourri (Christmas colors and scents if doing them for Christmas)
1 small crocheted doily
About a half yard of ribbon (I used Christmas ribbon)

Put your lights in to the jar (just kind of shove them down in) Pour Potpourri on top of the lights. Filling jar so the lights don't show very much. Weave Ribbon through the doily. Put doily on top of the jar (make sure the lid is off :) ) Pull ribbon tight and make a bow! Plug in!

What about this? Mix your favorite dough recipes (cookies, cake etc.) and put them in the jars (DRY, so don't put in water or milk or eggs yet). You can now decorate the jars from the outside (paint etc.). Write down the recipe (additional ingredients and baking instructions) on a nice piece of paper or print it out with a computer and attach to jar. You could also paint the recipe on the jar or write it on the jar with permanent markers etc. This makes a great give-away or gift for friends, neighbors etc.

I like filling Mason jars with marbles and putting them in a window so that you can see all the colors. You can also get kits at craft stores that allow you to paint things to look like stained glass, which is really cool, and very pretty.

When I was younger, I would clip cool pictures and words out of magazines, and glue them all over jars to make nifty little storage jars for my friends and family (try picking out words and pictures that remind you of that person).

Just a few things I've done =)

A Couple of years ago I made a gift for may sister in law by gluing lace around the outside of a jar and then filled it with bath salts, bath oil beads, and little decorator soaps. I then put material on the lid and another piece of lace around the lid to finish it. It was a big hit

I think the cutest thing now is making little collages inside the jars. You can make any kind you want using little miniatures or paper cutouts from vintage cards, etc. They don't have to be fairies...make little farm scenes, princess/castle, etc. The links below show some examples. Have fun and be creative!

I like the "Marbles" suggestion !!

Sadly, I use my old Mason Jars to store dried beans and such.... it makes things much more organized that those little plastic bags they come in.

You COULD make gift-soups... package the beans and spices along with a 3x5 recipe card. Great gift as fall & winter approach.

Good Luck !!

You can make Mason Jar Babies, the new toy craze that will sweep the nation, collect them all!

Or you can smash them all and lay down on them and not bleed and take the act on the road.

Or you can become a super hero; Too many pickles!?? This looks like a job for... MASON JAR MAN!!!! I'll save you! Jars Awa-a-a-a-a-a-y!!!!

Or you can get some Dixon jars and draw a line between them.

Or you can fill them with raw pork and say it's chunks of Perry Masons actual body and sell it on ebay.

Or... Ooh, I got it! Get a bunch of fruit and stew it down till it's like a puree and then fill the jars with it and seal 'em real tight and it'll preserve the fruit and then you can store them in your cupboard for the long winter months to come!
Wow! I'm a genius, why didn't anybody think of this before?

You ruined the lids by boiling them. The seal can only be heated once. As far as storage, they can be used for 50 years. Just use a mayo lid instead of the rings and lids. They both will rust rapidly if kept in the refrigerator
