It seems awfully hypocritical, don't you think? If we really thought that nuclear weapons were a bad thing, shouldn't we set the playing field by not building any more?

Although the US is reducing the number of nuclear weapons, it is also creating weapons that are more efficient and more accurate. http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=2919407&page=1

Of course its hypocritical. The US is the only country to have ever USED a nuclear weapon and they have the largest arsenal by far in the world. Not only that, they built the hydrogen bomb, a weapon with enormous destructive power though without the long-term radiation effects. Does the US really think Iraq will just nuke them? They know they'll be nuked far worse in turn, despite many of them being very conservative and radical, they are not stupid.

The United States has not built a nuclear device in years. The present stockpile has also been reduced substantially. The only country currently building nuclear weapons is China.

No, it isn't right- however, the reasoning behind it goes as follows:
We are a representitive democratic republic, republics are ruled by the people, therefore the people control the use of our nukes, instead of some madman dictator.
However, the flaw in this argument is obvious, as the people of any nation may be subjected to manipulation, and be either a mindless mob ruled by fear, or controlled by another charasmatic despot.

Not at all. If you thought you may have to go to war, would you not want to be the best prepared? Iran has sworn to destroy Israel and the US, and North Korea is always bucking for trouble. Would you feel more comfortable if we disarmed and they got to keep their weapons? We do not threaten other countries with nuclear arms, but we will deliver if they cross the line. I for one sleep better at night knowing we can destroy anyone who strikes out against us.

US is renowned for its double standards in international relations since times immemorial. The same goes for its nuclear policy as well. It's biased and America's blabber about nuclear disarmament means "we will have enough nukes to smoke the whole world out but none of you others dare to have even one"

Because, contrary to the thinking of Rosie O'Donnell, Alec Baldwin and Michael Moore, we are not terrorists-the U.S. only has them as a failsafe measure. The arms war between us and Russia made them a neccesity. Thanks to the likes of Russia, China, France and now, Iran the world is far more unstable.

Yes, it is hypocritical- They (U.S.) think whatever they do and say is alright and all others wrong. If they keep off so many things in the world, half of the problems will be solved automatically. They need not poke their nose everywhere.

it's called self-defense. when you're as hated as the usa do you want other nations having the ability to fight back. the usa has to hold the others down as long as it can. it's only a matter of time until the usa's reign will end as all world powers do. why not hold on as long as you can.

The US wants to rule the world. Other countries need nukes to protect themselves from us since we have proven we don't exercise good judgment when invading other countries.
