Do you believe that modern day African Americans who have never been enslaved, deserve recompense. If so, why?

Fair enough, then what? Do you think that doing so will help? There are many people who have clawed their way up from very bad situations. Why don't the others follow suit?

I love the answers. Everything seems to be so clearly cut, so why is this such an ongoing issue. There is a person, who will remain unnamed, in the forum tonight that is trashing white people, but became angry when a user shoved it right back down their throat. What do you think about this?

In answer to your first question, economics. Black people often live in the inner city, the poorer neighborhoods, and they don't get as many opportunities, and because of their poverty, some turn to crime and make their race look bad. If white people had the same economic situation, it would be reversed.
I think some people get on an entitlement kick, though. If you go around demanding everything like you're entitled to everything, you're going to face a lot of disappointment. I think "they're prejudiced" has become the new version of Aesop's "those grapes are too sour." It's a convenient excuse to say when you give up on your dreams.

I think that racism is a part of the human condition. ( part of the not like me) Do not forget that the reason Scotland yard was created was because the English thought the Scots were uncivilized and smelled bad. The Greeks called non greeks Babblers because to them that is what their speach was. As to recompense at what point would it end and would it negate or promote racism?

Racism is perpetuated by the "victim" attitude that most people have.

No one today deserves to be compensated for what happened back before they were ever born and never a part of.

Ignorance, lack of education and parental influence perpetuates racism.
And NO, I don't see the need to recompense! That would be ludicrous! That's not even an option! There's not even any precedence.

ignorance perpetuates racism...thats why those who are raised in a sheltered environment are more likely to be racist...blacks today have all the rights in america that any other race has...it would seem quite illogical to me to give recompense to those who didnt experience oppression...that would be like me being punished for my ancestors enslaving blacks...it just wouldnt make any sense...
