Hmm. This is very nice question- that has a very simple answer. Unfortunately, one would have to dive into esoterica.

Originally, the celebration of Easter was actually a feast for the old Germanic Goddess of the Rising Sun.

Her name was Eostre.

Primarily regarded as the Anglo-Saxon equivalent of Ra, she was the main goddess of the Spring and Life.

Her name is from old Teutonic- austron. Which means dawn.

Most other words for light- like Ostara and Aurora, come from the same root.

In fact, the word 'east' comes from the same root.

Some sources have concluded that her feast was held in time for the Spring equinox.

After the Christian assimilation, her feast was changed to the celebration Easter. The feast for the rise of Jesus from the dead.

Eostre was the goddess of life and fertility. People used to eat a lot of EGGS because it symbolized new life. Also, given that Rabbits are notorious for being very prolific, rabbits were the mascots of these celebrations.

Nowadays, everybody takes the expressions of Rabbits making baby rabbits in the hutch and eggs being baby chicken- but they both symbolize life.

Easter comes from the fertility god Ester during the the spring equanox. Several religions began to follow Ester as a good luck charm to have many babies if they prayed to her and began to put eggs out as a sign to help in there hopes that the wife would get pregnate. Ester is also known as the good luck goddess If they prayed to her and if something came about in the peoples lives that seem to turn out good they gave praise and honer to the Lady Luck Goddess.

If you look in the library of congress you will find all of this information. Or call one of Jehovah's Witnesses they have some of the mosy accurate information on the origin of holidays.

Sincerely yours,

Ya I know and what does it have to do with Jesus? We celebrate Easter because of Jesus so what's up with the bunny and the eggs? It's just crazy!

I asked this question a while back myself. It's something to do with eggs meaning fertility. I got a really good answer with a link, but I couldn't be bothered going back and looking for it.
