Great question..... on deeper thinking, I can not agree more!!

Majority of ifs in life arise from interactions and crossing of ways with other people which have the inherent feature of unforeseeable risk... because different persons have different viewpoints and aims. Even though risk events can be outside the involvement of other people, such risk events can be controlled through foresight and planning, whereas risks emanating from other people activities can be much less within our control either to anticipate or mitigate.
When the world is getting smaller, it implies a manifold increase in crossing of intents with other people, whether willingly or otherwise. The result is a phenomenal increase in the risk that is quite beyond our control.... in other words a multiplying impact on our ifs in life both in terms of their number and size/force of impact.

the "ifs" - also known as "hypothetical situations" or "ideal scenarios" - would never, ever go away...and with the world population on an upswing so will the "ifs".....the world is only getting smaller in terms of global communication being more effective; it has no direct correlation with how people play out their drama

I don't think the ifs in the world are affected by technology and travel, so no.
