Wonderful question, Love. Here is a story I wrote for Reader's Digest. It was never accepted. However, I think it answers your question perfectly.
Sometimes the smallest kindness can create a miracle. And like ripples in a pond, it grows. I carry a family story from the thirties in my heart. It warms and inspires me each time I think of it. My grandparent’s landlord was an angry, gruff man. His aggressive, abrasive manor kept people at bay. He had lost his wife years before and had no children.
One day, he came to collect the rent after my uncle was born. The kids insisted he come in to see the new baby. Reluctantly, he finally gave in. He asked my uncle’s name, but displayed no real interest. When Grandma said Charles, the old man’s face lit up and he stammered, “You… you named him after me?”
Though Grandma never even knew his first name, she just smiled and said, “Yes we did.’ After that, he became part of the family. His frequent visits never failed to produce a gift for his “namesake.” The crotchety old man melted into a kindly friend who adopted Grandma and Grandpa as family.
It proves that a little love can make all the difference in the world. You see, Grandma not only helped a lost soul, she inspired her family through a simple act of kindness!

Yeah, I met this one guy at a party, about a year ago. Now we're both like, best friends, pretty much. He really did affect my life, because now I have an extra person to go to, apart from some of my other friends, when I wanna talk to someone.

Yep... parents, sons/daughter, spouses, boyfriends/girlfriends, friends, siblings, teachers, and doctors. Even strangers who show you random acts of kindness can affect you by reminding you to treat others with kindness... On the other hand, strangers who commit random acts of violence against you can also change your life. A person who effects a simple decision of your's could ignite a change that could possibly lead you on a completely different path in life. Think about it, even every answer that you read here could keep you from being somewhere else.

no. There has to be at least three. You're mother affects your life (A LOT) by giving birth to you, you're father by making your mother pregnant, and obviously you affect your own life.
but in all seriousness, yes. My friends have affected my life more than I will ever know. The only reason I'm aware at all of how much my life is affected by them is because one of them is moving away and it's becoming more apparent just how important that person is to me.

Yes! I think there comes a time in all our lives when someone comes along and influences us consciously or sub consciously
The biggest influence on me was when i was sent this by a friend
Grant me the wisdom to accept the things i cannot change
The strength to change the things i can
And the ability to know the difference
I hope it helps

No, only you can allow the "affect" to take place. We take people in, and we adjust accordingly. Whether it is one, or one hundred, we are always growing and changing. The people we meet along the way are a part of our growth.

Yes indeed they can! My granddaughter has affected my life to the point of me getting out of bed everyday thinking about her and going to bed at night dreaming of her. She is what keeps me wanting to go on!
