Clean up your Cache, Cookies, History, Saved Form info and Saved Passwords. This will speed up your browser. Cache stores info from pages so that you can view them faster later on. No need for that. After clearing, in Cache, set amount of space to be used for cache to 0 MB. Go to 'History' and put remeber pages visited for last '0' days.

Like the first guy said, you could run a speed test. If you use Dial - Up, switch to Broadband not only to speed up but also for safety from Dialers.

If the whole PC is slow, try using the Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter Utilities in Accesories (Start menu - Programs - Accessories - System Tools)

Firefox
Open firefox > type about:config at the address > type network at the filter > search for network.http.pipelining and turn it into true > search for network.http.pipelining.maxrequests and turn its integer into 10 or more > after that try to test your internet will be more faster than before

Internet explorer
Go to start > RUN and type "regedit" > select HKEY_CURRENT_USER > expand Software > Microsoft > WINDOWS > current version and internet setting > find MaxConnectionsPer1_Server & MaxConnectionsPerServer indicates the maximum number of connections per page > increase the value (DECIMAL) from default to a higher value, say 10 > close the regedit and open out your internet explorer to test it....

Crude is correct about testing your speed, but just because it is slow, doesn't always mean you have spyware. An important thing to do is clean out your temporary internet files, cookies, and history.
