I was volunteering in a hospital in the south pacific a few years back and saw dead people on a fairly regular basis. We usually drove them back to their village and when we were enroute they did this odd howling as we drove through each village that we drove through. The howl was more of an announcement then one of mourning it seemed and they would get louder as we passed through each village. It seemed if a village recognized the mourners then they would howl along with them loudly and if there was no recognition then they would howl lightly in respect. Anyways, the dead bodies didn't bother me, but something that was quite scary was seeing a couple cases of generalized tetnus... I wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy. So everyone make sure that they keep up on their vacinations, especially if you are travelling to a developing country. While living in Kenya I also saw a lot of dead people, mostly pedestrians that had been hit by vehicles. A friend of mine there hit a woman that was crawling over a cement median and fell in front of his car, that shook him up pretty badly... but that is quite a bit more severe then just seeing a dead body. Anyways yes.. and no.

I have seen several dead people. Not only have I seen quite a few, but I worked as a nurses aide and have got them cleaned up at the nursing home to get them ready for the coroner to come and get them. And no it didn't really freak me out. I gave my grandfather a kiss on the cheek when I viewed his body in the casket.

Yes I have and no it didn't except for once when I was a little girl.. I was sitting next to my Dad at my grandfather's wake. We were in the front row next to the casket for what seemed liked hours and I had no one or nothing to look at except the coffin and my dead grandfather who was quite old.
I thought I saw my dead grandfather moving.

I have just thought of a second time--I was about 8 months pregnant and I went to the wake of a girl I had gone to grade school and high school with, but had lost touch with her for a few years. She was just 27 years old and had committed suicide. When I looked at her body in the coffin, she looked like her mother and very old and bloated. I had nightmares for months after that experience. I think some cosmetologists who prepare bodies for wakes make the deceased look like mannequins which can be frightening.

I have since seen other dead people (moments after their death) who had not died a violent death, and it did not both me at all except, of course, I was very sad.

I've seen dead people in hospitals, at funerals and those killed in auto accidents or shootings laying on the ground. It gives me a horrible, sad feeling, but it didn't freak me out

Well my aunt was in the hospital on a breathing machine..She was brain dead, had heart and kidney failure and the doctors asked if the family wanted to pull the plug. They said no and miraculously she woke up a few days later. She talked fine and normal. Then she went out again. A few days later she died. I saw her the day before she died. It was terrible. At the funeral she didn't even look like herself. That was the only scary part because it didn't even look like her. I guess its the same as seeing someone dead. =*(

I see at least 2-3 dead people a day. i work at a funeral home. Its not really creepy actually. When my grandmother died i did her make up and hair i didn't want someone making her out to be someone she wasn't... I love my job... Dying is really just a fact of life. you life and you die... There isn't anything creepy about a dead body. its not gonna wake up i promise...

In my profession I have not only seen many many many dead people, but I have sat with them as they take the last breath, and done post-mortem care. Which involves washing and dressing the deceased. There is nothing freaky about it. Just a fact of life.
