L = length
W = width

L = W + 3
2L + 2W = 526

2(W + 3) + 2W = 526
2W + 6 + 2W = 526
4W + 6 = 526
4W = 520
W = 130

L = 3 + W
L = 3 + 130
L = 133

perimeter of rectangle : 2 * (length + width)

let x : width (in inches)
x + 3 : length (in inches)

then
2 * (x + x + 3) = 526
2 * (2x + 3) = 526
4x + 6 = 526
4x + 6 - 6 = 526 - 6
4x = 520
4x/4 = 520/4
x = 130 inches (width)
x + 3 = 130 + 3 = 133 inches (length)

Okay a rectangle is 4 sides 2 length (l) and 2 width (w)

so 2l +2w = 526

we cannot do this with two variables but we know that l = 3+w
so substituting that in our equation we get

2 (3+w) +2w = 526

Distribute

6+ 2w +2w = 526

4w = 520

w = 130

we know that l = 3 + w

so l = 3 + 130
which equals 133

l = 133
w=130

let width be w
length = w + 3
2w + 2.(w + 3) = 526
4w + 6 = 526
4w = 520
w = 130
Width = 130 inches
Length = 133 inches
