I have a westell and was wondering if, a Belkin F5D7230-4 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router would work the same way?

A DSL modem will not work on a cable broadband connection. The Belkin you are asking about is just a router, not a modem, so you would still need to use a modem in conjuction with the Belkin Router. It will not take the place of a Westel Modem/Router, nor can it be used in conjuction with the Westel Modem/Router combo unit.
