nervous before the first day?

does anyone else get nervous before their first day at a new job or school?

i start a new job in about 6 hours, and i'm pretty nervous. They have me scheduled all week for 4 hours earlier than I told them I was available (which happens to be before the store even opens, so apparently I went from cashier to stocker without even knowing it...?). Communication isn't this store's strong point obviously. I still don't know how much I'm getting paid either. I don't have a name tag yet, or my time card. I have no idea where to go when I get there, or who to talk to. I asked, but no one really knew. (Fills me with confidence :-/ )

This is my 4th job, but I can't help it... I'm nervous!!!! doesn't help that I can't sleep....

anyone else get this way? nervous even though you know everything will turn out fine and you'll laugh about it later...?

YES! it's a nervous excitement!

Good luck!! I have a real nervous personality and I get really excited about things.

You have so much to deal with at new jobs new people, learning new things. It is a scary thing!!

yeah first days of school are nerve wraking sometimes. Like what if your schedule is messed up and you have to stand up in front of the whole class and say what's wrong, then the teacher sends you to the office where there are like another hundred people waiting to get their schedules changed. Then the bell rings for the next class and you're still in line and then you have to miss the class. So, you miss your second class and the counselor finally see's you. Well it turns out the coulselor gets a call and has to go somewhere, so you are sitting in the cold office wondering when the counselor will come back and also wondering if your hair is fine because your crush is standing right outside of the door. the counselor finally comes, and it takes like two seconds to fix the problem, now the real problem is having to sqweez through the crowd to be late for your second class only to realize that you got your second class messed up as well so you have to go back. So you try to get into the class that your crush is going into and when you finally do, he dropped it for wiegt lifting. Then you go home and think "oh crap" because you sighned yourself up for two AP classes and two honors classes and it's all down hill from here.

Yeah, generally because I didn't do my summer homework. I'm actually doing it this year so I don't get kicked out of any courses on the first day. I'm already expecting my classes to suck horribly and to not have any friends in my classes (because I don't have friends). Now that I think about it I don't get nervous, just sad and angry.

FOUR hours earlier? Speak up now before that becomes mandatory! Secondly you should have discussed salary in the interview-ask your boss the first day and get clarification. The rest of stuff will be given to you/worked out the first day- typically no-one gets their timecard, nametag etc. BEFORE the first day so please don't worry. And btw-yes it's completely normal to be nervous....you'll get over it-you'll see!! :-)

I know! I've been at my school for two years and every first day I'm nervous no matter what! Plus its mostly all of my friends from middle school! Don't worry you'll be fin it'll be much better than you evenexpected.

i was 19 years ago when i joined the fire dept. it took me a day to get use to the job.
