I started driving in the 60's. In my town at that time ( 1968-1970) a gallon of gas and a pack of Marlboro smokes were the same price.....30 cents.
Waitresses got paid about a dollar to $1.25 per hour and then their tips. Later, in the early 70's, they had to start pooling their tips or splitting them with the bus boy. Eventually, business owners made them turn in all tips for a count so income tax could come out of it.
Now, girls that waited outside at the drive ups didn't make that much money. maybe 80 cents to a buck and their tips never were as big as the inside restaurants. I happened to be a bus boy back then.
I also worked on farms back then walking beans. Paid about a dollar and hour but they fed you so much food you could hardly move. Average guy my age got paid about $1.25 working at gas stations and such.

1967 gas was about 34.9 cents a gallon. Cigarettes were 35 cents. My Pizza Hut job paid $1.50 per hr. to make and serve pies.
