I am in field sales, and one of my VIP customers always complains about his wife and his marriage. He says that his wife doesn't care about him and that he's sick and tired about the marriage. He once told me that he found me attractive, but nothing more. Why does he do this and what must I do next time he does this?

LMAO. He likes you, and is trying his best one liner on ya. Since he is a VIP to you, probably make a joke about it, and move directly to business. Or maybe just talk about how gr8 YOUR relationship is going, tell him sorry that his isn't so good, then move on to business.

He wants what people in your line of work call a FREE SAMPLE OF THE MERCHANDISE.

You can't possibly be dense enough to give him one.

It was a huge move by him to say he found you attractive. He has got it bad for you.

WHEN he brings it up again, and he will, anything you say like "I always keep work and personal lives separate" can be seen as an invtiation for him to talk more. Something you do not want. If he demands some type of response, don't say 'sorry' or 'too bad' - he'll think he'll get a sympathy screw. Just go "I see. Now about this order for Tuesday..."

If you knew you could never lose his business, the RIGHT thing to say to such a jerk is "Even if you were the last man on Earth, I would never ever have sex with you - even if it meant just to keep the species alive. It's never going to happen. You will never see me naked. Never."

But you can't say that, most likely, even though that's the only message such guys ever understand.

Ignore, ignore, ignore.

He is feeling you out to see if you want to have sex with him. Next time he does this tell him that he should remember why he married her in the first place and that you hope that things will improve for him. Just make a point to keep things very professional. When he veers onto personal things cut him short and get back to the business end of the conversation. He should get the message

First of all, you need to tell your boss about this. The guy is dropping hints that he'd like you to offer comfort and other benefits. It might even come to the point that he will want you to go to bed with him to keep the account. Your boss needs to know about this in case of repercussions in the future.

After you talk to your boss, tell the Very Important Jerk that you don't go out with married men, that you are married, engaged, living with someone, that you are a lesbian, any thing you can think of to let him know that his advances are not welcome.

BTW, if you can tape record your next sales call, this will be evidence you can show your boss, and if he has a boss, you can show it to him if there are problems.

Good Luck.

His wife does not care about him? who is washing his nasty underpants, cooking, cleaning after him? Don't believe all you hear. Pay attention to what you see. Most of all don't get caught in a room alone with him. The "whoe-is-me" stories are always the beginning of a "player".Don't be flattered, you are not the first to hear his stories. Ask him where he lives and who is careing for his needs. If he really is tired of the marrage, why is he still "at home"???

Hold up 2 business cards: one of a divorce attorney and one of a marriage counselor. Politely say, "I'm sorry to hear about your distress, but I am not trained in conflict resolution. Perhaps my friends could help you find a solution." Then hand him the cards with a smile.

Tell him to check into marriage counseling! Make sure your not letting him think you are available for any hanky panky! lol!
Sounds like he's trying to see if your up to a little on the side. And I'd suggest you don't play that game. It never ends well.
Good Luck!

You need to talk to your supervisor about it and get him assigned to another sales rep. This happened with me, and the situation escalated until his wife was showing up at my office. Not good for your career.

And no guy worth his salt uses that approach to pick up ladies. Or get better pricing. Or whatever his goal is..

You don't do anything. Let him vent. Don't offer suggestions or you could loose him as a customer if your suggestions don't work out. If he needs a reply just tell him that you are sorry to hear this and that you hope things work out for him.
