that only has a few mediocre answers, you type out your masterpiece, hit "submit" with a sense of accomplishment that is borderline arrogance, to be taken back to the original posting only to find that you are answer 37? Who the hell is going to read 37 answers to one stupid question?

I'm not even talking about getting a best answer. When I'm that proud pf an answer, it doesn't have that best answer quality, it has that smart a** quality. A real crowd pleaser.

sometimes when i see cool question and i feel that i have the best answer i do run fast to answer it to make all people read my answer then i check it back to see how many thumbs up i got hehe

But, I know what you mean. It is also frustrating when u r 37th answerer and all of a sudden u see ppl that submitted ur masterpiece only seconds before u did.
But I should think that the asker will take the time to read all answers.

Yes. If there are already posted answers to a question I am intrigued by I read them and rate, rather than add to the answers. If there are only a few answers I take the time to think about it and answer. It is a crap shoot!

Story of my life! But once Alec the Dalek picked me as Best Answer from the obscurity of page 2 - I immediately became his fan.

I assume the asker reads each answer. I certainly do. Try changing the settings to display newest to oldest. :-)
