It is obsolete. You cant buy Pentium 3 and Pentium 2's either.

P4 was introduced in November 2000. Development of the Pentium 4 line of processors was officially halted on July 2006. Intel's main focus was then shifted to the Intel Core 2 family of processors.

The Pentium D was (production ceased on 9 March 2007.

The first wave of Core 2 processors was officially released on July 27, 2006. Like the Intel Core brand that it supersedes, Intel currently offers the Core 2 series processor in Duo (two-core), Quad (four-core), and Extreme (two- or four-core with higher speed and unlocked multiplier) models.

Pentium 4 is history. Core 2 Duo blows everything else away and isn't too expensive. Since the introduction of C2D, AMD has slashed prices by drastic amounts, so better processors are now available for the same price as an old P4.

At the lower price points, AMD Athlon offers better all-around performance than Pentium-4 (not just for games) and AMD's X2 line outperforms the old Pentium-D by a substantial margin. It's hard to justify buying a P4 when much better options exist for maybe $5 more.

So there's really no market for the older Intel chips now. You can still find a few old P4 and Celeron computers in the retail chain, but they aren't good deals nowadays.

So Dell offers systems with the current processor options from both Intel and AMD- it just depends on your budget.

why don't you just buy the one with intel core 2 duo or simply core duo? it's faster than a pentium 4.

The P4 cpu's are quite old. Try the Core2Series... i would recommend a Core2Duo E6320 for your needs.

Ya what he said. The core 2 duo's are faster and use WAY less power. They are also smaller...so that you can brag about its smallness...
