including St Peters
and what should we expect to pay? Saw one for 50-60 Euro, saw another walking tour that was $30. This sounds decent. Share your experiences? thanks

We had a tour at the Vatican from our cruise ship. I am sure that the price that we paid was high, but it also included transportation from the ship to Rome which was over an hour on the highway.

The tour takes a long time because the line to get in is long and when I say long I mean like maybe two (2) blocks long to get to the place where you enter the Vatican. The tour starts in the Vatican museum, then you go through the hallways to the Sistine Chapel. Then you go outside and come into the courtyard in front of the entrance to St Peters. The inside of St Peters in massive, kinda like a football stadium with a top on it. Whatever you do be sure that the tour includes all of these places. Also, some tour leaders will have a personal headset for each person so they can talk to you as you walk and give you information about what you are seeing. There are hundreds of tours going on at the same time there and groups huddling in corners or sections to listen to their guide. If your guide does not use headsets you may be lost, or you just as well just go on your own and not have a guide.

I just went along myself....however I had a few hitches in that I arrived on Good Friday...so the vatican museums (that include the Sistine chapel) were closed...I went to Pompeii on the Saturday...attended mass in St Peters "square" on Easter Sunday with the Pope...which I enjoyed...(but the museums were closed again) and I came back to see inside St Peters on the Monday (and to my shock the silly museum was also closed!!!) so I missed out on that....
There was a museum inside St Peters itself which has the "original" peiata....grr spelling its the one done my Leonardo...there is one in the foyer (a copy) with the other one in this little museum....there are lots of other things in there too that are sparkely and look very expensive.

However I did a bit of reseach myself on it to find out what were the important things to see etc which helped enjoy my time there....It depends on what you want to get out of the tour and I guess a local will know more about the things in it than a book etc.
