I'm a vac tech. Let me give the scoop on Oreck. Unless you really need a light weight vacuum don't go to one. You end up getting a lot less machine for way too much money. In order to make a machine light weight they have to make it out of cheaper lighter plastic that doesn't hold up as well. They use a smaller dirty air motor. Take off the filters and accessories, an use a cheap wood roller. Nearly every part on the Oreck wears out over time. The best thing to do is find a vacuum that has an easy carrying handle that lets you pick the machine up at the center of gravity and keeps it well balanced. That will make it a lot easier to carry around. But if you really need a light weight, try the Riccar Supra Lite. They are similar to the Oreck, but they hold up better, clean better, and are a fraction of the price.

They are OK but a little pricey. If you have a small place,
just go to Sears or some other store and get a small
vac for around $100. I have worked janitorial and used
a lot of different vacuums. The Dyson vacuum is the best
around but if you have a small place its not worth spending
$500 for a vac. I have a Filter Queen that I found in a
thrift store that works well but is a bit big and bulky, so I
bought a small Kenmore Magic Blue for under $100 at Sears
about 4 years ago. Its works well and is small enough that
its easy to use and store, since I live in a 1 bedroom apt.
that counts for a lot.

I have one and I do not like it. On the other hand I live in a 2200 sq. ft. house with three kids and a wife that loves to clean. She stopped using it and uses the other one that we got from Walmart.
