the craft is a toadstool built from the large saucer that usually goes with a terra cotta flower pot. You paint it, decorate it. I have that done.
you need to get a wine bottle and a hollow pipe that is able to fit into the wine bottle for support when you put it in the ground. My problem--I can't find metal pipe 1/4 inch to fit into the opening in the bottle. maybe copper, but that is too soft and too quick to rust or rot. (the pipe and top f the bottle will be in the ground.
can anyone tell me where i can find that size of some kind of hollow pipe? pvc is not hard enough.
Or if anyone can think of anything else i can use as a pedestal for my toadstool in the yard??
thanks to anyone reading all this and trying to help.

First, I would suggest that you look up that particular show on the website of the channel you saw it on. I know that I have been able to find a list of products used in home shows, by finding when the show aired, or looking through their listings, til I found the one I saw ( on the many occasions when I couldnt remember the exact date, lol )
Once you locate the show number, then you can usually go back, and review it online, to see what they did for projects on that particular episode, and find a list of items they used, etc. This will tell you exactly what they used.

Now, having said all that... lol... If the bottle you are using has only a 1/4" inside diameter opening at the mouth... you may want to check into rod, not pipe. I know you can get threaded, or non-threaded steel rods in this size or smaller at most hardware, or building supply stores. Paint the rod with some primer before putting it into the ground to help prevent rust. I'm assuming that the metal you are looking for is used as a 'post' to place the bottle over, to help keep it upright. It may be necessary to pad the end, and/or the portion that may rub against the neck/mouth of the bottle.

Copper lasts for centuries, and it's not soft unless you buy the tubing. PVC is also not soft, but you may not be able to find it narrow enough. I suppose you could buy aluminum or stainless steel pipe, but it's overkill.

I made some of the little birdfeeders out of teacups and saucers, and they're on copper posts. They lasted right through our Maine winter including days when we had winds of 50 mph.

I also made a scarecrow with a thick cardboard tube, and her post is an old tent stake. Any metal rod will do.

Take the bottle to the plumbing store and find PVC, or similar, avoid metals, that can stick fast in the neck.

Use a piece of steel the same diameter to cut a hole, and then just tap in your fitting

copper is best it will not rust or rot at all, infact ,it will outlast the other items mentioned.
