I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan. 4.2L engine.

My left rear wheel has begun to squeel. I have found a friend to do the repair, but he said I need to pick up all the parts and such.
What exactly do I need to buy for him to fix my brakes?

I'm military living overseas, so there are no normal auto parts stores here.

you,ll have to have him or them tell you what all they need to do this with,if its just brake shoes or pads it needs those aren't too expensive, but if it needs other things like rotors or maybe drums on it,they will cost a little more, but no one will ever know this until they tear it down and see what all it needs, there's lot of parts in a brake system,so make sure you don't replace things you don't need on it,good luck with it hope this helps.

If you're sure it's just your brakes, you'll probably just need to pick up new pads or shoes, depending on whether your car has rear disc or drum brakes. I'd just pop into the nearest auto parts store and tell the clerk you need new shoes/pads for your rear brakes. They can look up the part number you need.

Do both sides at the same time. If one side is worn, the other probably is too. Also, if the pads/shoes are too worn, they may have caused some damage to the drum/disc so there's a possibility that those parts will need to be remachined/replaced.

To be honest, if your friend is going to repair your brakes, he should be able to figure out what you need. Otherwise, I don't think I'd trust him with it.

Brakes some times squeel your friend should look at the brakes first and then tell you what you need. It could be just dust in them or some have metal tabs that rub when the pads are low (if you have rear disk brakes) If you have rear drum brakes it is most likely just brake dust or a broken spring in the drum. Eather way you should have some one look at them first before you buy things you may not need!!

More than likely you have rear drum brakes and you should have your friend look at them before you purchase anything. It could be as simple as cleaning and adjusting them, but it could be worse so he should check them out first and let you know what you need. Or get a free estimate from some brake shop and then you will know.

It depends on the problem. Is it brakes or is it a wheel bearing? If it is the brakes, then you could get away with just the brake shoes unless you have 4 wheel disk brakes, then you would need the pads instead. good luck.

well you should have disk brakes on the back also, but the best thing to do is go to autozone, and tell them whats going on with your brakes, and see what they say

it will have to be torn apart before you really know what you need to do the job, there's no sense buying things you don't need until you see.
