No not really.
It depends on where you are going and what train you take. If you are going to Lollapalooza or any other event in Chicago most people take public transportation to and from the event so the trains will probably be packed with people who attended the concert with you which will make it safer.
Just behave normally and protect your belonging and you should be just as safe as riding in daytime.
Again you did not say where you will be staying or where the concert will be held.

You did not say where you were coming from or where you are thinking of staying at while in town...if you're going to be staying near the concert site, then you can simply walk around. If you're staying for example near O'Hare you can get over to the CTA Blue Line and take that back and forth...same goes if you're staying up on the North Side only you'll be taking the Red Line....and then the Metra is there if you're travels take you out to the suburbs.
The costs for the Public Transportation are not that bad either....you can get a CTA 2-day pass for $9 for unlimited rides (I believe they have a 3 day pass as well....see the link) and if Metra is your transportation of choice they do have a $5 pass for unlimited rides over the weekend.
Have fun and enjoy! The venue is one of the nicer areas of the city (Grant Park). And don't worry about getting mugged....you will be travelling with other people from the venue no matter what bus/train line you'll take!

You'll be fine, especially if you are in a group. Ride the first car (the one that has the CTA employee driving it), and ignore some of the crazies that can ride the train. Keep in mind that the blue line and the red line are the only trains that run all night, the others stop between about 1 and 4:30 AM. You can check the CTA's website for schedules. Again, you'll be fine- I've been riding that train since I was 15, and I ride the green line all through the west side. Mind your own business and you'll be aight. Have fun at the concert!

Depends on where you're staying. Some train lines can pass through some sketchy neighborhoods, but if you all are in a group, you should be OK. If you don't feel safe, make sure to sit in the first car. That's where the driver is and you can alert him or her to any trouble. In addition, each train has a car with an emergency alert button. If there's trouble, just press the button and it will alert the driver. There are also alert button at each train station stop. Buses are different, they make different turns, stops, etc. and it's hard to say what the conditons will be like at any time. But just stay in a group and learn you route to and from the hotel to the concert grounds BEFORE you get here. I studied the tube map for London extensively before I went there and knew exactly what train to take and everything long before I arrive, so that I was travelling pretty much like a native. Nothing say "Mug Me!" like a bunch of tourists standing on a corner at midnight in the middle of nowhere looking at a map.... Go to the Chicago Transit Authority website and study their transit map. It has the train line stops and most of the bus line routes.
Despite what you hear, it's pretty safe around here. Just keep your wits about you and don't walk around like a "tourist", i.e. not paying attention to where you're going.

Where are you from? Have you ever Ride the L? If its a bunch of you, I doubt a mugger will take a chance to mug you. You are always risking yourself when you are in a big city, just don't act like you are from out of town or a suburban snob. Chicago's L is not know for its high crime rates, it is actually known for its efficiency and great way to get around Chicago.

I holiday that blue line at about a million:30 each and every evening, coming abode from paintings, by O'hare and heading again into the city. Its many times a extraordinarily busy practice which resources to the safe practices. yet when no longer, attempt to detect a automobile with numerous human beings on it, or take a seat on the brink of the conductor

Stay in a group, and you should be OK. The blue, orange, red, brown, and purple lines are pretty safe-try to ride in the car closest to the driver-but stay off the green line and orange line going south at night. If you are in a car alone, go to another car. When I lived there, there was a rape on a blue line train midday, and the woman was alone in a car. Do not be embarrassed to move if you have to!!! Overall, this is a pretty safe way to travel, but like anyplace else, always be on guard.

It depends on which line you are on. Don't go any further than Clark/Lake on the blue line, the orange line and the brown line are safe, but avoid the green line altogether, and the red line south of state and lake.
