Nintendo Wifi Pokemon Pearl. I need to find out how i get the code to get other peoples codes. PLEASE HELP! =(

I went down in the bottom to the poke`mon center and I asked the girl to get my code. I have wireless router, but whenever I put my DS close to it and go to the girl and go through all the stuff if asks my game still says I can't find a wifi conection. Am I doing something wrong? please help

1. Go to the main menu (where you select the game). Then go to Nintendo WiFi settings.
2. There select either slot and "look for an access point"
3. Select your wireless network. Make a test and you are set!
