It's made the world more comfortable, but not necessarily "better," which is an attribute that is both vague and open widely to interpretation.

Technology is responsible for the loss of countless jobs, making people unable to work and buy new technological comforts. Technology is responsible for sophisticated weaponry that now has us all living in fear. It allows us to overpopulate and monopolize and kill off our natural environment. Technology is responsible for fatty foods that we can't burn off, because of other technology that allows us to sit behind the TV, computer, video game screen, etc. to accomplish all our tasks and receive all our "pleasure."

Technology is convenient and efficient. It turns a profit for the company, but only by putting countless others out of a job over the course of enough time.

Of course, technology is also used to save lives and help restore some of the damage we've done. So the question is loaded and has many answers.
