I'd want Japan and Russia for their nuclear capabilities, China for the sheer manpower (same goes for Russia). The U.S., of course, I would want as well. It goes without asking. Who wouldn't I want on my side? Actually, it's best if EVERYONE was on my side. Every bit of extra help counts. That way, I don't have to send so many of my own troops overseas. Plus, there's the extra manufacturing capacity as well. The more munitions factories I have pumping out bullets and tanks for me, the better. And China has definitely got the industrial muscle to do that.

Besides, it might be smarter to ask who I wouldn't want to be my enemy. That would definitely include Japan, Russia, and China for the aforementioned reasons. Maybe North Korea, Iran, and other similarly scary emerging nuclear nations.

tjinjapan: You've got a point. But then, what country joins a war without an eye for gaining something out of it? Everybody wants a share of the spoils, so it doesn't really matter, I don't think, which country you have on your side, so long as they contribute. And won't sell you out or otherwise stab you in the back in the future.

I wouldn't want the U.S. Even though they are the strongest military power they always have strings attached to their involvement. France sells out to the highest bidder! Italy always retreats. I think at this point in time I would take the Russians. I would go with the U.S. as long as their demands on my country are not outrageous. I would also consider the U.K. they would be a good fighting force.
I would also consider the Chinese just for pure numbers. But like the U.S they would want something in return.
I guess when it comes right down to it I would choose a country that has the same values and ideals as my country.
P.S. To all the TURKEY'S who said Japan- Japan can not fight! I live in Japan and their constitution prohibits them from sending combat troops anywhere. Japan has a very strong anti-military population. This is all a result of WWII

USA, because they are stockpiled with weapons.
Japan, because they're technology is top-notch.
Britain, because they have a good history of turning out good tacticians.
And maybe Russia, because they got some pretty decent tech still left over from the Cold War, though its getting old.

On my side, The United States of America.
Not on my side, france. I would actually like it if they were my opposition.

My side: China (technologically and economically advanced), it's my home country, and I'm mostly Chinese anyway
Not on my side: Korea as a country...(even though I'm part Korean) the country is split...so no real unity there

I'd want US to be on my side, for their military strength.

I wouldn't want Iraqi to be on my side. They surrended by the masses when US and UK force rolled in.

In an ideal world, we wouldn't need sides...but in all reality, we wouldn't have wars. I would chose whichever country was morally sound I suppose.
