Do you think that Child Programming on Television today is a contributing factor for the growing violence of our young people?

Perhaps. It affects the kind of violence more than the need to be violent. Having said that:

I think that putting children in front of a box with moving pictures, instead of loving them, reading to them, singing with them, tickling them, having them help with chores, going to museums and volley ball and Little League may lead to emotional and physical violence.

The lack of attention to children certainly leads to unhappiness, conflicts, and rage which may become violent.

The content? I don't think that seeing violence leads to violence. For a well-adjusted person, it has the opposite effect. It's repulsive.

I think the violence we see in children today comes from two places:
1. Lack of love and attention at home and in school (and certainly, substituting parenting with a TV is part of that--no matter what's on the TV).
2. Psychotropic drugs, especially SSRI's like Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Prozac, Lexapro--all the school shootings were done by children on one or more of these drugs. These drugs are already banned for teenagers and some for adults in several industrial nations.

It is our Profit at ALL Costs--including marketing fanfare on TV for children--that takes no responsibility for what they are doing to the children of this nation and of the world.

TV, Big PhaRma, Candy--all the same, in that they contribute to neglect and abuse of children, and the combination is eventually deadly to the children, themselves, or to others on whom the children turn their desperation. (Violence, in children, is also a cry for help....)

No, I don't think television violence has any major effect on the morality of people.. there really aren't any statistics that show a drastic increase in violence among young people. It's actually been stated that it may seem like there is an upsurge of violence because of the increased acess to weapons, as well as the onset of guns rather than knives- the use of guns make crimes easier to commit, and they also may cause for more brutal crimes.

No.I think that is lack of parental supervision. I think that too many parents let the TV or Music or Video Game babysit their kids. Then kids have had no guidance and don't have good reasoning skills. My son watches some stuff that has fantastical violence, but he choses not to watch things with realistic violence, because we as parents have talked to him about everything he sees. I think the violence that our kids is going through is a whole different discussion.

I cannot blame it on television, when i am in control of what my children watch. I do believe that violence is more prominent on television. Much more so than say, 20 years ago. I recall when NYPD Blue was blacked out in some areas because its content was objectionable. Now days, shows are 100% more racy than NYPD Blue was, and it is acceptable.

So, to answer your question, I do believe that television COULD play a part, but television cannot be held solely responsible. We as parents should monitor what our children watch. Cable, sattelite and television systems now days offer parental controls. It is up to the parent to set them up and utilize them. I do.

No really i dont...my kids dont have violent tempers and they watch violent things on tv and play violent video games and i dont see their behavior any different....i do strongly believe that the child that had violent "reactions" to these types of programming is the children that cant tell(for the lack of a better word) right from wrong so to speak and it consumes them.

Yes, absolutely. What I now call "Toiletvision" has a major influence on young and impressional minds. Especially when we live in a time where the TV has become the babysitter while the parents are home.

No, I do not. I think violence in movies, music, and maybe even video games de-sensitizes young people. Just my opinion though.
