Imus is a Liberal, but he sure got screwed on this one. And who cares about Al Sharpton. Sharpton himself is nothing more than a Race Baiter. Apparently, this was a contract law violation by CBS. Imus is suing CBS. Now I am a conservative and Imus is a liberal. However, I do care about him as an American who's Constitutional Rights were violated.

Because they were high -pressured by Special Interest groups- to give him the "boot". CBS IS a business -afterall. And when your Advertizers start threatening to "bailout" on you- "en masse", it's time to release the "scapegoat". Not to worry; Imus will get the $ owed him in his Contract with CBS. -And he'll retire, "happily ever after..." :)

His freedom of speach was not violated.

He is and was allowed to say whatever he choses to.

However, since he worked for CBS when he said it and his comments can effect CBS, they have the right to tell him not to say certain things.

He was not fined for what he said, he was not arrested - he was fired.

Whether you (or we) like it or not, an employer has the right to fire any employee who acts in any way that can damage the reputation, earnings, credability, ect of the company.

CBS, as does any company, has the right to fire any employee for just about any reason that is not expressly covered by law. Free speach is not covered by law in the work place.

Think about it - many sexual harrament cases in the workplace would be considered free speach under your definition.

Also, the freedon of speach is NOT an absolute freedom, none of the freedoms in the constitution are.

The freedoms are only allowed so long as they do not infringe on the rights of others. That is why libel is illegel - you cannot make fase accusations in order to discredit someone because you are infringing on their rights.

Imus can still say what he wants and nobody can stop them. However, when he did it on the air he infringed on CBS' rights as his comments could, and would have had major implications for the station if they had not fired him. Therefore, they had the right ti deny him THEIR airwaves to make his comments.

Imus constitutional rights were NOT violated
the the airwaves are OWNED by the FCC and licensed out to stations, the FCC represents you and me, liberals and conservatives.. but tends to be on the conservitave side...
but still one important thing....
AIRTIME IS NOT FREE
but in is fact commericalized for profit..
and since it's a for profit ventuire with rules and regualtions
there is NO FREE SPEECH
not even on satellite radio

now Imus is free to expouse his views, racists or otherwise in public.. but not on privately licensed airtime

this is one key aspect few understand
that TV or AIRWAVEs are not free and freedom of speech IS NOT PROTECTED on there,,.. it was never meant to be...

just like you do not have the freedom to yell fire in a private theater ( and if their is rush to the door and people get trampled and killed you will be sucessfully sued ), Imus and others like him do have limits they must follow set by both the FCC and their employers ( in his case CBS )...

your failure to understand what true freedom of speech is shows your lack of understanding in the US Constitution

Don't you know they fired him because his sponsors pulled out? It was money & public image. Not free speech.

No sponsors, No money, No TV show. What's so hard to understand?

And why are you 10 years behind current events? That happened before dinosaurs went extinct.

You do know TV & radio shows need to make money to stay on air, right? If it don't make any money, then no show.

His right to speak his mind is protected but not when it is broadcast on a network. The liberal left and other factions jumped on this like it was a pig at a pig roast.
