I'm in the process of designing my own celtic knot tattoo, but I want to put the knot together myself, and I want to know the meanings behind the lines. Does anyone know of a good book or website on the meaning of celtic knots?

Ironic--I got my first, and only, tattoo 10 years ago. I wanted either a dragon or a Celtic knot. Back then, anything Celtic had to be custom-designed, which was beyond my budget, so I got a dragon. I love my dragon, but might, now that the Celtic stuff has gotten popular, get one.

But, not tattoo related, the Irish fisherman's sweaters have patterns knitted that are specific to the village where they are made, and there are knots (the kind you tie) incorporated in some of the designs.

There is no "meaning" to celtic knots. I have a friend Marc of Kent who make jewlery based on historic celtic designs. If you do a web search for celtic patterns, you'll find many site with information on forming the patterns.
