I am trying to get good representation, and I know that a good agent will not charge you unless you get work. Can anyone help me. Thank you for any info that you can give.

Well, it's graet that you know that. Agents generally take 10 of your wages AFTER they help you get a job. Actualyl they get you the auditions and YOU get the job :-) But they take a chance on you and use their time, energy and resources to get your foot in the door!

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. I'm not sure where you are, but you can also see if your state has a film alliance. Sometimes they post audition information for projects filming locally. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying OR you can go to your local bookstore or newsstand and look at their print publication (new every Thursday) for free.

Good luck!

Find out the procedure, in your city, for getting an agent.
Ask your actor friends, with agents what steps you need to follow.

Do the agents want the actor to mail a headshot/resume, or, do they want the actor to contact them when the actor is performing in a production?

Talent Agents are entilted to a 10% commission, once the actor books a job, if they are a legitimate Talent Agency.

Go to SAG.org to see if they are listed.

Agents want to see that you have a lot of lead, theater roles on your resume.

Good question. I got an acting agent when I took acting classes at The Hunington Beach Actors And Models Studio.
Try to find an acting studio that has showcases, where you can meet agents and you act for them and they decide whether or not they want you to join. You can also go the website, actorsaccess.com too.
