For most coinstar machines and the alike. Its not 7% its 6 cents on a dollar. which would be 6%.

Depends on which machine and what their deal is with the property owner where the store is located. At my local grocery: about 7%

Note: some machines will give you full value if you take payment in gift cards. (The fee is paid by the gift card issuer as an advertising expense.) This is a great deal if you actually will use the cards that are offered.
