Here are the rules of waving.
Rider in or approaching an intersection: Don't wave. A new rider may try to wave back.
Rider in heavy traffic: Even if traffic is light in your direction, don't wave. Again, a new rider may try to wave back.
You are in heavy traffic: Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT crane your neck to see over the Jersey wall. What's going on in the east bound side is not your concern. Survival takes precedence over brotherhood-of-bikers protocol.
Kid on a moped: Wave. It will make you both feel good.
Both you and another rider are stopped at an intersection: You don't have to shift into neutral just to wave. A knowing nod is more appropriate.
Mountain roads: Keep your hands on the controls.
Rider on a different brand bike: Don't be a jerk. Wave. A bike is a bike.
Multiple riders in formation: Wave to the leader.
You're in formation: Let the leader wave. Your job is to maintain your spacing.
Rider overtaking you: Wave just before you're passed.
Overtaking a rider: Wave as you go by.
Beautiful day, wide country road, light traffic: Wave at everyone. If you're not enjoying the day sell your bike.
Rain: Wave. If rain makes you miserable, take your car instead.
Hottie on the sidewalk: Use caution if you have a backseater. On second thought, go ahead. Seeing your head bob up and down from the blows to your helmet will be quite entertaining.
Someone in a car waves to you: Wave back. Doesn't matter if they ride or not, they are a friendly.
Kids: ALWAYS wave.
Motorcycle police: Wave if you want, but they don't usually wave back.
Approaching, or departing from, a motorcycling event: Within two kilometres of the event, the 'brotherhood of bikers' requirement to wave is lifted, so give your arm a break.
You waved, but I didn't wave back: Don't take it personally. I was lighting a cigar.
PS: wave at scooters.. They are motorcycles as well.

First of all this is about people. People aren't Harley's or Crotch Rockets. If a person is anti-social or oblivious to other people then how does it matter what they are sitting on? I'm against categorizing people as motorcycles. If someone chooses to believe or think that they are something based on what they ride then what they are is a shallow human being. Who needs people like that? Why even worry about it for a second? If someone doesn't wave, they could have other things on their mind, they could be high, lost a parent, got fired, are running from the repo guy....who knows? Just because you wave and someone doesn't return the wave shouldn't be a reason to start making generalizations or imagining things that you can't control. Then to top it off you add labels to people based on unsupported evidence supplied by your need to make generalizations which really shows how immature and childish you are by nature for starting this whole thing.... Why do you insist on bringing your school girl logic to this forum and constantly creating these topics? Do you feel that insecure and inferior? If someone doesn't wave back I think about it a whole .5 seconds and only a person who is so preoccupied with the need to have other people support her paranoid issues would carry such thoughts around and bring them up here.... PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE AND THEY CERTAINLY WON'T EVER BE WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO BE OR EXPECT THEM TO BE - GET THE "F" OVER IT !!!!

I do.
I've had people on imports not wave back, but I've had people on harleys not wave back too.
I love my HD. I think anyone that has their chin in the wind or knees in the breeze is a "biker" running the same risks as I am when it comes to carts ans such. I belong to ABATE and although most of the members in my area ride Harleys we encourage others and have quite a few import riders in our chapter. I do however turn quickly when another biker wants to rag on harley, I 've got some great comebacks.
my harley has 97HP and quarter miles at 12.15 sec.
Ride Safe
P.S. Joel is a primary example of why some bikers get their asses kicked

I have a Ninja and Harley riders wave about 50% of the time. If I'm riding with my friend that has a Shadow they wave all the time.

I do because i own one. I just recently bought a Harley Dyna Glide to have the best of both worlds. I love both bikes and just because i own a harley, i don't feel as if i am far too superior to wave to a fellow biker. I wave to all and hate when not waved back to.

I do if their out on the hi way but how often do you see a crotch rocket outside the city limits? about as often as you see a u. f. o. their to busy standing around telling each other how fast their bikes are if they ride 6 or 8 hundred miles a day their bikes look just like Harley's instead of like a monkey trying to make love to a football. lol just tired of all the anti Harley prejudice from immature squids who were pedaling big wheels 10 years ago LIGHTEN UP! live & let live

I don't have a Harley, and I wave at everyone.
If I had a Harley, I'd still wave at everyone, unless I were afraid of taking my hand off the grip.

Always it does not matter what they ride. I ride a Harley and I do not much care what others ride it is there choice. I have never looked down on other bikes. I care more that they are riding.

Bikes are bikes, it doesn't matter what you ride. I really wished this whole Harley versus everything else issue didn't even exist, but as long as there are small minded people there will be small minded ideals. Joel, I don't know how to break this to you buddy, but you are a d1ck.
