According to some legal experts, Income Tax is an illegal forced collection of money from the populous. Is this true? What, if any, is the proof?

Judy, Judy, Judy - this was aimed at intelligent people, not knee-jerk reactionaries like yourself, that feel the need to spew their ill-informed gutter-wit on others at random. Good luck with your lucky, sarcastic win, by the way.

Judy! Just read your question from some time ago, about how to afford children you can't afford? Well, how about a bit of simple maths to work out if you can afford to bring up children in the first place, BEFORE WHINING ABOUT IT! Try keeping your legs together more often, honey! ;-)

Love you . . .

Income Tax in the UK was introduced as a temporary tax to pay for the Napoleonic Wars...consequently it technically has to be re-enacted every year. If Parliament forget one year, then it would be illegal!
Technically, I suppose that if the Taxes Act is enacted in July (as it normally is), then the collection of tax between 6 April and the passing of the Act is unlawful.

THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL I SAW THEM ON THE INTERNET:

Nobody ever really landed on the moon - it was a giant hoax. What you saw on TV was filmed in Utah.

Elvis is still alive, and performing marriage ceremonies in Las Vegas.

It is unconstitutional for the government to tax your wages (income tax), and most of what we think of as income isn't really income anyway.

Excuse me now....I just won 2 million pounds in the online UK lottery when my email was randomly selected, and I have to go answer the email.....

;-}

Edit later: Hey Brenda, I've started posting the response I did, to the five or so times this same question gets asked every week - the question is past deserving a serious response.

And read more closely before you make assumptions. My earlier question about kids was how is the best way to SAVE for college. And btw they're not my kids - I'd been asked the question by their mom, didn't know, and thought I'd find people on the financial aid forum who DID know - and I got some good answers. My youngest is 37, a college grad WITHOUT financial aid - we paid for college for the kids with cold hard cash earned from jobs.

Some like to claim that the 16th amendment wasn't properly ratified by all the states making income taxes 'not legal'.

Urban myth, really. Wilkpedia does a nice job summarizing the information on the 16th Amendment. (See link in source.)

The MAIN point to remember is how the amendment has been repeated held up by the courts. People can complain as loudly as they like, but until they bring in strong, clear facts I sincerely doubt that the courts would ever strike down the amendment.

A common misconception is that "law" is somehow handed down from God (or the EU).

It's not - what's legal (or otherwise) is whatever the Government of the day says it is ..

Sorry, but those are not experts. They are CLOWNS. And many of them a CONVICTED clowns. Convicted of tax evasion, filing frivolous returns, etc. Anyone who puts any faith in what a CLOWN says risks their financial health and personal freedom. PERIOD!
