Do some of Dad's chores, Wash Dad's car. Breakfast in bed, and my favorite crappy home made cards (that's what makes them great!!!).

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.
This is a really beautiful poem too!
The things you taught me I will always know.
How could I not? The roots have sunk so deep:
All lessons of the heart that I will keep
No matter who I am or where I go.
Kids learn from what their parents are, and so
You are my book of life, the thoughts I reap;
From you I learned the rules of right and wrong
Against which I at times had to rebel,
Though with regret I carry with me still.
How lucky I am to have been loved so well,
Even as I pushed against your will,
Relying on a father fair and strong.

Every father is different, so it usually helps to give an idea of what they like. As I said in another thread, I just got my dad the two disc M*A*S*H series finale/special features DVD set to go with the rest of the collection as he enjoys the series. In the past I've gotten him tools, CDs of some of his favorite bands, novels from some of the authors he likes, and of course gift cards. Though I'm not much for going straight to the gift card as I see it as a last resort, something to get when you can't think of something folks would really like and time is running out.
Anyway, ideas to think about for dads (or anyone really, depending on what they like):
DVD sets of shows they like
DVD player/recorder
CDs of their favorite bands
Novels from their favorite authors
Tools
Hobby supplies for hobbies they enjoy

One of the best gifts is a homemade card, with something written from the heart inside. Also , something that pertains to a hobby or interest he has. My dad has a rare collection of old antique bottles, I had found four nice ones to add to his collection cleaned them and wrapped them , and put them in one box. If he babies his car or truck, then look at the products he uses, like car soap, wax, sponges, squeegies, buffing glove, things he uses but will run out of, go to your nearest auto parts place and buy a big plastic bucket, and fill it with those products, and wrap colored cellophane paper around the items and tuck it down in around the edges. He'll love it.

it depends on what your dad likes.
my dad loves to travel so we are going on vacation.
also, all dads love homemade presents.
just think about your dad
after all, its not the presents tht make fathers day special,
its the love.
