I am ordering a new application/file server and I am wondering how a Dual Core Intel® Pentium®D 925, 2x2MB Cache, 3.0GHz, 800MHz FSB compares with a Dual Core Intel® Xeon® 3040, 2MB Cache, 1.86GHz, 1066MHz FSB. I have minimum requirements of a Pentium D 2.8 GHZ, will the xeon meet this? From what I have read I believe it will, but specifics would be appreciated. Thanks!

I actually meant the Dual Core Intel® Xeon® 5120; 4MB Cache, 1.86GHz, 1066MHZ FSB, not the xeon listed above.

The Xeon is better, and by a pretty decent margin. The Pentium D is based on old NetBurst architecture, while this Xeon is based on Intel's new Core Microarchitecture, the same stuff used in the Core 2 Duos. So yes not only will it meet minimum requirements, it acceeds them.
