If killing kids is the problem why are cons in favour of retaining our third world health insurance system.
Americans pay more than any other country per capita for health insurance (twice as much as most) and yet we recieve only the 37th best health care in the world.
8 out of every 1000 live births in the US die before the age of 5. In Cuba it is 7 out of every thousand. In the Czech Republic it is 4. Yep a child is more likely to die in the US than Cuba and twice as likely to die here than in the Czech Republic. And Republicans tell us nothing is wrong and Dubya pretends we have the best health care in the world.
Why do cons care so much about abortion but are happy to let us have third world child mortality?

I find that abortion just for the sake of birth control to be a bit difficult to justify. However, I am a con, and I can see many instances where abortion would be for the best. One of the most compelling to me is if there is a choice between mother and baby. No offense to Catholics, but I married the woman because I loved her and wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. So if there is a choice, abort the baby everytime. I can live without children if I have my wife beside me.

There are also liberals against abortion. I don't think that those who are against abortion view women's rights as the primary issue. I think they are primarily focussed on the well-being of the unborn conceived. I also don't think that those who are for legalized abortion are against babies. They just don't think of the unborn conceived as human beings at the early stages of development. Each "side" puts the victimization on the opposite of the two (mother and developing fetus). I won't mention my views on the issue here, as I think it can only be divisive.

I am not "against abortion." I am against the lies that were told about the Constitution by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade. And if you want to talk about people being on "power trips" then you need to stop and think about how much power those nine Dictators on the Supreme Court have.

I dunno.
They SAY they're for choice on schools and they SAY they're for less government interference in people's lives BUT. . . their religious masters do not approve of abortion, therefore the gutless bow down before them.
Typical of the oleaginous hypocrisy that pervades the Republican Party.
More examples: the Religious Right disapproves of stem-cell research, therefore, MY family isn't allowed to benefit from it.
The Religious Right also disapproves of the terminally ill making their own end-of-life decisions, preferring to substitute their own judgment and religion for that of those actually involved.
Remember Terri Schiavo and the pandering that ensued?
And, of course, some of the right-wing opposition to abortion IS, in fact, just a power trip about controlling women.
But it's more about forcing their view of "Christianity" on the rest of us.
Which will happen over my dead body.
Good question. A star unto you.

Not just cons, but those people in general who just can't seem to differentiate the difference between an embryonic state of development and a human being. In their mind a fetus is a human being(never bothering to look up the meaning of "being "and eggs are OK to eat and are not chicken embryo, but they're certainly not chicken, either,,they're something else as well..(or like another million things, they just hadn't thought about )...Oh! Well ! so it goes in the ole science versus fiction game of yester year, perhaps 2000 years of yesteryear....( I wonder if they know about electricity ,yet....)

flush,
Control of women? What bridge have you been sleeping under? Women do what they want, for the most part, and I congratulate them and salute their efforts.
Abortion - to use a nasty term - Abortion is Murder.Plain and simple. I have read lots of books and articles on this, some scientific, some legal. But, the most important thing that I've done is ask literally hundreds of women what they think of the abortion deal. Their response has overwhelmingly been centered on the death of a baby - that's what they think abortion is. And if the intentional 'death' is applied by another human being then it's murder. Right?
Also, it is a moral outrage.

Politicians use this divisive issue to win votes. Simple as that.
Most Republicans would vomit blood all over their Bibles if they paid attention to what their favorite pols voted for. Your typical conservative Christian American does not want corporate welfare, tax breaks for the rich or corrupt officials. They vote for the GOP because of "moral" issues that do more to divide this country than unite it.
Think about this: Gerald Ford, before he died, said that not only was he pro-choice, but so were George Bush 41 and Barbara.
