How it's started?
How U.S. got involved?
What happened during the war in the 1960?
And any other info.

Please help me with anything you can.
I searched for sites, but they have every single detail.
All I need is the main idea of it.
All answers will help.

Check on wikipedia, it lays it all out for you:

"The Vietnam War (also known as the Second Indochina War, the American War in Vietnam and the Vietnam Conflict) occurred from 1959 to April 30, 1975 in Vietnam. The war successfully reunified the Vietnamese under a communist government which consisted of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV or North Vietnam) and the indigenous National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, (also known the Việt Cộng or VC). To a degree, the war may be viewed as a Cold War conflict between the U.S., its allies, and the Republic of Vietnam on one side, and the Soviet Union, its allies, the People's Republic of China, and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on the other. Others, however, viewed the conflict as a civil war between communist and non-communist Vietnamese factions."

Well the Vietnam war is one of the first that the united states didn't win for starters. We didn't win because the Vietcong used the attack and retreat method. I am sure if you talk to anyone who fought in Vietnam they will tell you it was a nightmare and they just wanted to get out of there alive. I can tell you that during the Vietnam war the US had the highest desertion rate in US history. There were a couple ways our soldiers got through their year of service. All of our troops were separated into groups you had your druggies (they did mostly marijuana and most came home addicted), alcoholics (used alcohol to get away from the brutality again they came back addicted), insane people (these are the guys who enjoyed the killing and brutality) and then there were the people just trying to stay alive. Those are the main lines that were drawn between groups but then you have to add the racial and regional lines to separate the groups further. Now we went there because our president at the time (I think maybe Nixon or Johnson) decided that it would be a good idea and actually thought that it would be an easy fight. Nine years later we actually came to an agreement and left. But if I'm not mistaken we actually went there to help south Vietnam who had been taken over by north Vietnam. One of the reasons it was such a hard war is that the Vietcong didn't wear uniforms and blended in with the normal Vietnamese. It's kind of like the war on terror, how do you tell who is a terrorist and who is a normal citizen? That is why it is impossible to win a war like this. What you have to do is educate the people in an honest and worldly way. Knowledge is power and in the case of the Vietnam war we had no idea what we were getting into because when we went over our maps were out of date and we didn't have the right intelligence to be prepared for a war of its magnitude. In all honesty we underestimated the Vietcong and paid for it in lives.

The north was a communist country and the south was a republic. The North wanted to take over the south so they declared war.
US didn't want any other country to become a communist country.
The north and south fought with each other over territories and the US was involved. North Vietnam was backed up by China and the Soviet Union while the South was backed by the United States and Austrailia. Basically on April 30, 1975, Saigon, capital of South vietnam fell into communist hands and a year later, vietnam became unified and became a socialist republic.
